ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN
The Youth Poster and Video Campaign has been designed to give youth the opportunity to speak out about what wellness and healthy living means to them through two avenues of art-making. Each year a theme is chosen that demonstrates the complex nature of eating disorders and weight disturbance issues and highlights issues that influence the way young people experience their bodies. The aim of the campaign is to encourage BC youth to translate their thoughts and ideas about healthy body image into a positive message for other youth and to encourage dialogue amongst youth and adults regarding health at any size. Youth from communities around B.C. are encouraged to participate.
It is our hope that this campaign will raise awareness with teachers, counsellors, youth workers, parents, youth and their communities about the underlying issues surrounding eating disorders and weight disturbance issues and poor body image. We hope it provides everyone the necessary information and resources that will encourage and invite individuals to celebrate the inner strength and beauty of everyBody and give youth the opportunity to speak out about these important issues.
The campaign begins in the Fall of each year with a deadline to submit work during Disordered Eating Awareness Week (February 4-10, 2007). The winner will be chosen by a diversified group of individuals that make up our committee. If you would like to participate in our efforts to increase public awareness around eating disorder and weight disturbance issues contact us at our office. Below are the winners from previous years.
