Prevention is about promoting healthy development by fostering resiliency and reducing risk in girls and boys BEFORE they start experimenting with unhealthy behaviors ie. dieting, lack of exercise, unhealthy eating etc...
Our programs and services focus on promoting one's inner strength and beauty and building resiliency in girls and boys before they start experimenting.
We have been introducing our Children's Health Resiliency Program throughout 2007. This training program is aimed at educating the adults in our school system and communities to understand the importance of applying the basic principles in their own life as well as their students and children. The health of the helper is a determining factor on how effective a prevention program can be. To find out more, click here.
In order for our program to reach as many communities as possible within the province, we have developed and are offering a Train the Trainer Program for both the Children's Health Resiliency Program and for Health Group Facilitators. To find out more, click here.
We recognize and acknowledge the need to address the male gender on the issues of eating and weight disturbances. Therefore we are currently working on a Research Project for Boys and Men. There are three phases to the project. To find out more, click here.
To ensure our prevention program reaches other cultures, we have initiated our Critical Multiculturalism and Translation Project. This project looked at and identified the cultural appropriateness and community relevance in three different languages: Chinese, Punjabi and Korean.
Finally, our annual Youtube Video Contest. The aim of this contest is to create dialogue amongst the youth around the issue of what makes them strong. For more information on the contest click here.
Additionally, other programs are in the works but have to wait for more funding: Health Group Training, Online Health Group, Intervention Support Hotline, just to name a few.
Jessie's Hope is working towards developing and providing evidenced-based prevention training programs and resources that will give us the ability to establish relationships with BC communities to enhance these programs and resources and to ensure the sustainability of these programs within BC communities to support youth around eating and weight disturbance issues.
