Connie Coniglio - Chair

Connie Coniglio is the Manager of Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions for Vancouver Coastal Health on the North Shore. In this role, Connie is responsible for the development and delivery of a wide range of mental health programs and services for children and youth ages 0-19. Connie is also a Faculty Member at the Adler School of Professional Psychology where she teaches graduate level courses in Counselling and Clinical Psychology and chairs qualifying examination committees. Connie is also a member of the QPR teaching faculty. Her specialization at QPR is the delivery of gatekeeper and clinician training programs at post-secondary institutions in North America. Connie was previously employed as the Associate Director for Clinical Services at the Health, Counselling and Career Centre, Simon Fraser University. In that role, Connie was responsible for the development and delivery of clinical services to students, staff and faculty at Simon Fraser University. Connie was employed at Simon Fraser University from July 1995 until January 2006. From 1986 until June 1995, Connie was employed as a counsellor/therapist at the Student Development Centre, The University of Western Ontario. Connie has worked extensively with members of the post-secondary community, and she has developed expertise in cross cultural counselling and cultural transition, advising on mental health, student development and suicide prevention. Connie is an active member of the community. Her involvement has included: Examiner, College of Psychologists of British Columbia; Past Treasurer and current Chair, Jessie’s Hope Society; Member, Faculty/Institutional Committees, Adler School; SFU APSA representative on the EFAP Committee; SFU Emergency Social Services Director; Member, SFU Student Learning Task Force; Member, SFU Assisting Departments in Distress working group; Coordinator, Personal Services, Campus Emergency Social Services Team; Vice President of the Pacific Coast College Health Association; Western Region Representative for the Canadian University and College Counselling Association; Canadian Association of College and University Student Services; Past Chair, Board of Directors, Sexual Assault Centre – London; and Past Chair, Womanpower (a federally funded career counselling agency for women).

Susie Kishore Vice-Chair

Susie holds a degree in criminology and psychology from Simon Fraser University. She has extensive training in drug and alcohol counseling and has assisted in writing policy and procedure manuals for Hollyburn family services. She also has years of experience working for the ministry of children and families as a mental health counselor and family mediator. She has had friends who have struggled with eating disorders and in order to gain a greater understanding of the issues that her friends were dealing with, she volunteered at Planned Parenthood. Here, she had an opportunity to work with some women with eating disorders. As a result of Susie's experience working within the mental health field, she brings knowledge and wisdom to the board. She also brings with her enthusiasm, dedication and passion to all issues that she cares deeply about and being part of Jessie's Hope and on the board is definitely what she holds these feelings for.


Mimi Hudson - Secretary

Mimi is the Director of Community Programs with Family Services of the North Shore (FSNS). Her background is as an administrator with varied experience in both the not-for- profit and corporate sectors. She has an M.A. in Counselling Psychology and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor. She has been a Parent Educator for nearly 20 years and group facilitator/speaker for Family Services of the North Shore for 17 of those years.

First as a volunteer in fundraising and then as a staff member at FSNS, she coordinated the Family Drop-ins and played a key role in the development and operation of an innovative community partnership, the Westcoast Energy Children’s Centre (now known as I hope family centre). In 2000, she assumed the position of Parent Education Coordinator and became Manager, Community Education in February, 2001. In January, 2007, she became the Director of Community Programs.

As a board member of Jessie’s Hope Society, she brings her experience as a parent and parent educator/counsellor. She has worked in the field of prevention for many years and has familiarity with and contacts in many social service agencies in the Lower Mainland. Her interest in Jessie’s Hope is in part because of the number of young women she knows who have experienced disordered eating.


Pierre Leichner - Director

Dr. Leichner is a psychiatrist who has been involved in research and treatment in the field of eating disorders since 1980. He has worked in Winnipeg, Montreal, Kingston and Vancouver. He is currently the Psychiatric Director for the BC Children's Hospital Eating Disorder program and a Clinical professor at the UBC department of Psychiatry. Dr. Leichner brings to the board his expertise, knowledge of eating disorders and obvious dedication to the field.

Caroline O'Brien - Director

Caroline is a 4th year student at Simon Fraser University. She is studying towards her degree in psychology in hopes of working within the mental health field. For the last 3 years, Caroline has trained and volunteered with the Vancouver Crisis Centre in their CommEd Program. Here she presents suicide prevention and stress workshops in high schools through out the Vancouver and Burnaby school districts. She also is involved with the Crisis Centers Peer Helper Training Program. What brought Caroline into this area of volunteering is also why she longs to be an active member of Jessie’s Hope Society: Jessie. Jessie and Caroline grew up together since elementary school. They became the best of friends supporting each other through the trials of high school, growing up and entering College. Although Caroline was able to experience Jessie’s love, support, strength and encouragement, she also witnessed Jessie’s struggles to offer those same comforts to herself. Caroline is really excited to be a part of Jessie’s Hope Society, and knows that Jessie would be very pleased and proud of the work that is being done. Caroline wishes to give her utmost support in the development of her dear friend’s legacy and continue the growth that Jessie had started.

Katie Benjamin - Director

Katie is a National Millennium Scholarship recipient and former high performance skier. She is currently competing and coaching for the UBC Varsity Ski Team. A two time All-American athlete, Katie is completing her final year of Human Kinetics at UBC.

In 2005, she founded Womyn’s Gym, a program that provides personal training to women living on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Katie’s focus on boosting the whole person- mind, body, spirit- brings passion and expertise to Jesse’s Hope.

Jana Svedova - Director

Jana holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and Commerce from UBC.   Jana currently is an Account Manager with Vancity
Credit Union and within her field of work she has a particular interest in not-for-profit organizations and the social economy. 

It is with her background as a dance and figure skating instructor that led to her interest in the area of eating disorders and body image. Through her work with children and youths she has dealt first hand with these issues which have given her an understanding of the importance of prevention in these areas.  In addition she has previously been involved with several organizations dealing with issues of women, children and eating disorders.
