Loving Yourself and Your Body in a Weight Obsessed World!
Outreach Presentation

The Jessie's Hope Community Outreach Program is comprised of dedicated volunteers (not health experts) who are passionate about reaching out to girls about eating and weight disturbance issues.

Our volunteers are trained through Jessie's Hope newly developed Loving Yourself Girls Project, based on the framework developed by Sandra S. Friedman, MA, Eating Disorder Prevention Specialist and author of "Nurturing Girlpower". (Her other books are; "When Girls Feel Fat: Helping Girls Through Adolescence"; "Body Thieves: Help Girls Reclaim Their Natural Bodies and Become Physically Active" and "Just for Girls". To find out more about Sandra's work go to her website at www.salal.com.)

Jessie's Hope goal is to reach girls when they still feel good about their bodies and themselves, to give them the knowledge and skills that will support them when they are dealing with their immediate environment (family, peers, school, workplace, community) and the societal influences in their everyday lives.

Our 60 minute interactive presentation is designed to bring awareness and skills on how girls can:

                • Express their feelings constructively
                • Set boundaries
                • Have healthy connections with others
                • Develop their self-esteem from within rather than based on their appearance
                • Have a good sense of their bodies
                • Are physically active
                • Have a healthy relationship with food

The presentation is designed to create interaction and discussion between the participants. Even though, each of our facilitators has a different way of approaching and presenting the content, the premise of each presentation is designed to provide the necessary knowledge, skills and support to nurture their "girlpower".

Our presentations are designed for the elementary and high school level girls, although, our presentation can be altered for parents.

If you have a group of girls that you feel would like to experience one of our presentations, please complete the Community Outreach Request Form [word format] [pdf format] and return it to our office via fax or email.
