For too long we, as a society, have allowed women to be defined by our physical beauty while minimalizing the importance of our inner character.  We as human beings come in different shapes and sizes and encompass oneself as more than just a physical being but also of  mind, spirit and soul.  That's what makes us unique and individual.  Unfortunately, more and more, girls and now boys of many ages, are losing their sense of self.  Being influenced by societies message of the 'ideal' body image has triggered individuals to establish eating and weight disturbance issues.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

This past year has been a very exciting one in our development and I am very excited to have been a part of such a vibrant, growing organization. I look forward to another prosperous year of working together to ensure our prevention, education, training and research programs reach out to the children, youth and adults throughout the Province of British Columbia.

As a member of Jessie’s Hope Society, your support allows us to make a valuable contribution to the on-going national dialogue on healthy self-esteem and body image and building resiliency in our children, youth and adults across the province and across the country. It is our desire that you will demonstrate your commitment to Jessie’s Hope Society in becoming a member for the coming year and in joining our growing family of donors. You can see our donors listed by clicking Donor Recognition under the Donations heading.

Your membership and your donations go to support our Celebrating EveryBody provincial prevention programs and services including our Children’s Provincial Prevention Program, Healthy Minds - Healthy Bodies: Building Resiliency in Youth, our Boys and Men prevention initiative, and, our Support Group Train the Trainer program.

In the coming months, your membership entitles you to receive our quarterly newsletter which is now scheduled to come out in mid-September, an invitation to our Annual General Meeting on September 18, 2007 with a special presentation by Quinn Cashion-Vosburgh on our Children’s program, a subscription to Visions – BC Mental Health and Addictions Journal plus an invitation to the exciting events we have planned in October and November as well as during Disordered Eating Awareness Week February 3-9, 2008.

Improving communications with our members is on the Board of Director's agenda for the coming year, and we are establishing a Membership Committee this year. As part of this process, we want to hear your ideas as to how we might serve you better, and ask if you have an e-mail address, that you provide it to us on the membership application form.

Your membership is a vital component for us to exist!   Consider becoming a Jessie's Hope member or renewing your membership. We count on you!

Sincerely,

Brian W. Chittock  DBA, CFRE

REMEMBER - The quality of an individual's life depends far more on the shape of their spirit, wisdom, emotions and psyche than it does on the shape of their body!
