Celebrating EveryBODY! is a program designed to build resiliency and help children and youth become aware of the external factors that influence their choices around body image. Our Children's Health Resiliency program is aimed at educating the adults in our school system and our communities to understand the importance of the basic principles and applying them in their own life and to the lives of their students and children. The health of the helper is a determining factor on how effective a prevention program can be. It is through role modeling that most human learning occurs. To recognize students’ well-being and our own means a shift on how we offer our services. This would include a shift from trying to “fix” people to building on individuals’ natural health.
Our program is a strength-based approach that is grounded in sound research in the field of resiliency. The inside nature of this program offers a bridge between our natural health and outside influences. Participants will develop an understanding of the resilience-based framework the program operates from, deepen their understanding for themselves so they can apply it in their own lives and then learn how to naturally tap into their students’ well-being. Each lesson offers a very interactive and reflective approach.
The curriculum includes the following components:
Lesson 1: Finding your Inner Compass Lesson 2: Uncovering Potential Lesson 3: Our Natural Resource –The Role of Thought Lesson 4: The Thought Habit Cycle Lesson 5: Feelings and Moods Lesson 6: What you think is what you get Lesson 7: Appreciating Others Lesson 8: Healthy Living Lesson 9: Tuning into Healthy Living Lesson 10: Celebration!
Celebrating EveryBODY! is a 10 lesson program and to effectively teach this requires an 9-hour training session by teachers and other professionals to become informed of the underlying approach to this curriculum. It is a program designed primarily for elementary school teachers who work with children in grades 4, 5 & 6 but can also be utilized by other community professionals and volunteers. The purpose of this universal prevention program is to reduce the risk of eating disorders and other weight issues by tapping into our youths’ natural resiliency to prevent these unhealthy behaviours.
PLEASE NOTE: Celebrating EveryBODY! is a primary prevention health promotion program designed to promote healthy development in individuals BEFORE they start experimenting with unhealthy eating behaviors, and is NOT intended as a treatment tool for youth who are already showing signs or symptoms of an eating disorder.
