Community Workshops
Jessie’s Hope is offering to communities, a two hour introductory workshop for moms, dads, girls, boys, child and youth workers, mental health workers, medical professionals, parks and recreation workers, fitness instructors, counsellors, nutritionists, dieticians and community volunteers interested in learning our principles-based approach that can be applied at home or within their practice based on the Celebrating EveryBODY! learning units. A nominal registration fee will be charged to attend these community-based workshops. If you or a group of you can commit to the responsibilities identified herein and are interested in hosting a workshop in your community, please contact our office to book a date. A minimum number of participants may be required in order to run the workshop.
Specialized Group Training Day
An eight hour training session (option: 2 day - 4 hour sessions if preferred) is available for professionals who wish to provide training to specialized groups such as gay men, lesbian women, peer counsellors, women, girls, men, boys, seniors, families, etc requesting resiliency building/body image workshops. This program would utilize the train the trainer format to allow trained professionals to provide the Celebrating EveryBODY! program directly within their own practice or community organization. This program can be custom designed as requested and funded through registration fees by the organizing community group to cover the cost to Jessie’s Hope Society.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND INVOLVEMENT
We would need a commitment from the community to assist us in:
Securing a Community Coordinator: the Community Coordinator will be the liaison with Jessie’s Hope staff
Securing a training locale: the Community Coordinator will secure an appropriate size space for the training and to accommodate the Facilitator’s projector and laptop, preferably complimentary but if not available the rental fee will need to be approved by Jessie’s Hope office and it will be the responsibility of Jessie’s Hope to cover the cost once approved.
Promoting and advertising of the training forum: Jessie’s Hope will be responsible to provide the Community Coordinator with the necessary advertising materials, press release, flyer advertisement design information. It will be the Community Coordinator’s responsibility to find the appropriate avenues to promote and advertise the training session.
Photocopying: it will be the Community Coordinator’s responsibility to have photocopies of any hand-outs that the trainer has for the participants of the workshop. If there is a cost incurred, they are to ensure the costs are approved by Jessie’s Hope office in advance and it will be the responsibility of Jessie’s Hope to cover the cost once approved.
Recruiting participants: it will be the responsibility of the Community Coordinator to network and recruit participants as they see fit. A minimum number of participants may be required in order to run the workshop.
Supplying refreshments on day(s) of training: Jessie’s Hope will cover the cost of beverages only up to a maximum dollar allotment. Should the community wish to provide anything further, it will be the responsibility of the community to cover such costs.
Organizing of the onsite setup and registration of participants: the Community Coordinator (or designate) will need to be available on the day of the training to oversee the onsite setup and make sure that all participants register and pay the registration fee as they arrive, be available to answer any housekeeping questions that may arise.
Assist the trainer with their setup needs (if necessary) and distribute trainer handouts; Jessie’s Hope will be responsible to provide the Community Coordinator with all necessary standardized registration documents and other evaluation information necessary.
Providing Jessie’s Hope’s Facilitator with participants contact list: the Community Coordinator will be responsible to ensure that the registration list has been filled out completely by all participants and returned to the Jessie’s Hope’s Facilitator along with the registration fees collected. The Facilitator is responsible for ensuring both the registration list and fees are returned to Jessie’s Hope office in Maple Ridge as soon after the training takes place.
Participating in our evaluation process: The Community Coordinator will be responsible to ensure that all participants understand the importance of and agree to participate in the evaluation process to ensure Jessie’s Hope receives accurate data on the implementation of the program. This may be through an electronic and/or paper survey, focus group or telephone interviews.
